How do I pair my AlpinerX with my phone?

To pair your watch, launch the application, press the crown on your watch to wake up the Bluetooth® radio, then press the "start" button in the application. Keep your watch close to your phone during the pairing process. You will be prompted to push the crown on your watch one more time to complete the pairing. When complete, you will be prompted to setup your profile.

What is the AlpinerX application?

The widely used, patented MMT sensor-fusion engine inside your AlpinerX smartwatch tracks activity, sleep patterns and sensors (altitude, pressure, UV, compass). Daily activity (steps, calories, and distance), sleep and sensor information is presented accurately in real- time on its LCD screen.

Simple and easy-to-understand graphics highlight how much you have moved and slept during the day, week, or month. Goals and dynamic coaching help encourage a better self-awareness and understanding, which in turn fosters well-being. You can as well visualize the history of high-tech sensors.

To sync data, your smartwatch connects to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. Launch the AlpinerX app and press the smartwatch's crown button to connect. Your data will sync with the app once it has connected.

Your data syncs every minute automatically when the app is open and your AlpinerX smartwatch has established a Bluetooth connection with your phone or tablet. Once the sync is complete, you can immediately review your progress in the app.

How do I synchronize my AlpinerX watch with the AlpinerX Application?

Launching the AlpinerX application or bringing it to the foreground on your device, accompanied by a press of the crown of the watch will typically initiate a sync with your watch. If your watch doesn't start syncing automatically after a few seconds, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and try moving your watch closer to your phone. If your watch and phone are already a few centimeters apart, try giving the crown on your watch a press to wake up the Bluetooth radio. If you continue having trouble syncing, force quit AlpinerX, then relaunch.

If you continue having trouble syncing, turn your device's Bluetooth setting off and back on again. If this does not work, turn off your device and re-start it. Smartphones and tablets, like computers, need to be rebooted periodically to function optimally. Also verify your phone or tablet is above 20% battery level. Several devices will conserve power when battery drops under 20%. If you are having trouble connecting or pairing, please make sure your phone is charged above 20%. Some devices will not connect over Bluetooth even when plugged into a power source if the device's battery level is below 20%.

Activity

What information can I read on the Activity page?

The Activity screen shows you all you need to know about your activity on a single screen.

The graph on the upper half of the screen displays your progress hour by hour. Touch and drag your finger across the graph to view how many steps you had at a particular time of the day.

The star icon indicates when your activity goal was achieved.

The stopwatch icon allows you to view the details of a recorded Stopwatch activity.

The table on the lower half of the screen displays all your statistics for the current day, including the number of steps, the distance you covered, the calories you burnt and your active time.

The calories are divided in 2 categories:

  1. The calories you burn from taking steps (walking, jogging or running) are shown under step calories.
  2. Even when you are sedentary or sleeping, your body burns calories; they are known as basal metabolic rate (BMR) calories and are shown under rest calories.

How do I set my activity goal?

If you'd like to change your Activity or Sleep Goals, select the Menu icon at the bottom left of the screen. From the menu, select Settings, then Goals. Rotate your finger around the display to adjust the activity goal. When finished, select the "sleep" button at the top, then adjust your sleep goal in the same manner.

What are "Get Active" alerts

Your watch can optionally be configured to alert you with a beep when you've been inactive for too long. If you hear a beep, you've been sitting too long, so get up and take a short walk.

You can select the duration of inactivity and from what hours you'd like to be reminded by touching the Menu icon at the bottom left corner of your screen and choosing get active alert.

How can I record a workout?

To record a workout, you must select the workout function on your AlpinerX watch, by pressing several times the 3 o'clock pusher, until you reach it ("WKT").

With the 4 o'clock pusher, you can select the type of workout: workout, run, walk, Nordic walk, treadmill.

Starting/stopping the record of a workout works like the chrono function. Start/Stop with 2 o'clock pusher. When it is finished, reset it with the 4 o'clock pusher.

After synch, the workout details will be visible in the AlpinerX app in the activity page.

How can I track my run with GPS?

When you record a workout, you can track it on the GPS map. To do so, you need to:

  • Enable your GPS in the phone
  • Accept that AlpinerX uses the GPS service of your phone (asked at the first launch of the AlpinerX application)
  • Set "GPS Workout" feature ON in the AlpinerX menu "general"
  • Have a connection between the watch and the phone when you start and stop the workout
  • Carry your phone with you during the workout

How are calories calculated in AlpinerX application?

Whether you are sedentary or sleeping, your body burns calories; this is known as BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories. By default, the AlpinerX application reports calories burned as a combination of your BMR and your activity level. Your height, weight, age, and gender influence these values. If you'd like to view only your active calories on the dynamic coach graph, select the Menu icon at the bottom left. From the menu, select Settings > General then toggle "bmr calories" off.

How is a user's stride length calculated – Is it simply a metric based on height?

The MMT-365 system determines distance travelled in real-time using patented algorithms based on detailed accelerometrics, and analysis of the user's actual gait in consideration of the user's biometric profile (height, weight, age, gender, etc.). These algorithms are continuously optimized using machine learning with MMT SwissConnect team of scientists. Unlike most systems, distance traveled is not just a simple multiplication of a fixed stride length times a number of steps — that is what most other solutions do and it is very inaccurate.

Sleep

How do I read my sleep data?

The Sleep screen shows all the data related to your sleep on a single screen.

The graph on the upper half of the screen displays periods of deep sleep, light sleep and awake time. Touch and drag your finger across the graph to view start and end times of each sleep segment.

The alarm clock icon indicates a Smart Sleep alarm.

The table on the lower half of the screen shows a summary of your sleep, including total deep sleep, total light sleep, total awake time and how many times you woke up. It even shows you how much time you took to fall asleep.

Touch the pencil icon on the awake time cell to edit the bedtime and rise time of your sleep recording, or to delete your sleep recording.

How do I set my sleep goal?

If you'd like to change your Activity or Sleep Goals, select the Menu icon at the bottom left of the screen. From the menu, select Settings, then Goals. Rotate your finger around the display to adjust the activity goal. When finished, select the "sleep" button at the top, then adjust your sleep goal in the same manner.

To create or edit an alarm, select the plus icon at the bottom left corner of the screen. From the Menu, choose "sleep cycle alarms". Select "add alarm" to create a new alarm or select an existing alarm from the list to edit. Configure the alarm detail such as time, window and days of the week to repeat. Set the alarm time to the latest time you'd like to wake up. Set the window duration for the window of time prior to your alarm time which the alarm can wake you. The Sleep Cycle Alarm will choose the best time in the window to wake you up, based on where you are in light or deep sleep. Use the On/Off button to toggle the alarm on or off, then press the back button to return to the alarm list.

Why do I need to wear my watch to record my sleep?

Wearing your watch will provide the best accuracy, but you can also place your watch under your pillow. Just be sure to tell the AlpinerX application which position you prefer to sleep in, from the settings page under "sleep mode preferences".

How is light vs deep sleep determined?

There is a direct correlation between micro-motions of the body during sleep and sleep cycles. MMT's technology is the result of years of development based on the biomechanics of natural human motion and the mechanics of machine motion. Using the medical gold standard of Polysomnography, the sensor-fusion engine analyzes millions of anonymous nights of sleep, validates and continually improves the accuracy and reliability of the AlpinerX application.

How does my AlpinerX detect my sleep start/stop/cycles?

The AlpinerX watch detects automatically that you started a night sleep, based on the movement measurement and the sleep and wake-up times you provided.

At night, when the AlpinerX watch detects that you started a sleep cycle, it starts the night sleep recording. In the morning, when the watch detects that you are awake thanks to the measurement of your activity, it closes the night recording and starts measuring your activity.

At night, you must wear your AlpinerX watch to let it monitor your sleep. You can also put it under your pillow. In this case you must set it in the "Sleep mode preferences" in the "General" menu.

Sensors

How does the AlpinerX watch measure the altitude?

The altitude is measured via the pressure sensor. The barometric pressure depends on the altitude. The AlpinerX processor measures the barometric pressure and computes the actual altitude.

The pressure also depends on the weather conditions, this is why the altitude can change with the weather conditions. For this reason, the altitude must be calibrated from time to time.

How can I calibrate the altitude measurement?

In the AlpinerX application, in the "my watch" page, "calibration" menu, you can calibrate the altitude. If the GPS of the phone is ON and gets a good altitude position, it will propose a value. Enter the actual altitude of your position to calibrate the watch altitude.

In the menu "general", you can turn ON "auto altitude calibration". The phone will regularly read the phone GPS altitude and send it to the watch as a calibration value.

How can I calibrate the barometric pressure measurement?

In the AlpinerX application, in the "my watch" page, "calibration" menu, you can calibrate the pressure. Enter the actual pressure of your position to calibrate the watch with a reference pressure.

How can I calibrate the AlpinerX compass?

To work properly, the compass of your AlpinerX must be calibrated once.

To do so, go to "my watch" page, "calibration", "compass calibration" and follow the procedure. You must turn the watch horizontally a full turn.

For a successful calibration, follow the good practice rules:

  • Keep away from metal or magnetic interferences
  • Keep the watch horizontal
  • Give the watch a full turn on itself (keeping it horizontal) in 10-20 seconds

Tip!!: You can keep your watch on your wrist, keep it horizontal (in the same position as if you are watching the time) and make one full turn on yourself.

How does the watch measure the UV index? BTW, what is UV index?

The AlpinerX has a UV sensor under the dial.

UV are the Ultra-Violet rays of the sun light, outside of the visible spectrum. At high exposure, the UV rays can damage the skin and increase risks of skin disease like cancer.

The UV index is a classification, from 1 to 12, of the intensity of the UV in the sunlight:

  • Low: 1-2
  • Medium: 3-5
  • High: 6-12
  • Very High: 11-12+

Sensors' Allowance

Temperature Sensor

The sensor will indicate the temperature with the following allowance: +/- 2 degC max (typical +/-1 degC)

UV Sensor

The sensor will indicate the index with the following allowance: +/-1 UV index
